Ciara's Short Break to Rome

18/06/2015
Ciara spent a few days in Rome and tells us all about her experience from great food to magnificant sights!

So, I was in Rome for there for a few days to plan my wedding for next year along with my Fiancé and my parents. I had never been to Rome before and I guess this was part of the reason why we chose to get married there. You see pictures of it all the time but nothing compares to actually being there, it is absolutely breath taking.

Wither you are thinking of a get away with the other half, for your hen party or even for your wedding I would totally recommend Rome. There is something to see around every corner and the architecture is out of this world. There is so much to do and see and after all your sightseeing, there is an abundance of authentic Italian bars and restaurants to relax and recuperate in.

Rome has a reputation of being really expensive but I think it’s like every other city, there are expensive areas and there are very reasonable areas if you know where to go and ask around. To be honest we didn’t find it expensive and we didn’t have to go out of our way to find somewhere to eat or drink.

The food was amazing so I had no option but to try it all and now I am paying for it and will have to get moving on working if off. The best thing to do is to ask people who have been to Rome for recommendations as there are so many restaurants to choose from. We got recommendations from some of the vendors we met while over there such as the florists and our wedding planner and you can also ask the concierge in your hotel or other tourists, people are usually very willing to share the experience they have had, good or bad.

I will say that street sellers are a bit of a nuisance especially around the large attractions and sites but you get used to them and it’s a bit of craic trying to bargain with them and it’s also all part of the experience. The other thing that we were told to look out for was pick pockets again around the sites which are the busiest and the perfect opportunity for them. Just make sure to have your bag closed and don’t have it on your back, bring it around the front where you can keep an eye on it. Again this is the case in most large busy cities and should certainly not be a deterrent not to go visit such a beautiful city.

While we were there we tried to pack as much as we could into our four days but primarily the reason we were there was to organise our wedding, however we did get time for some sightseeing and I would definitely recommend the open top bus tours, you can hop on and hop of at all the major sites and depending on the tour you choose the buses come every 10-20 mins. It is definitely the best way to see the city. We took a guided tour of the Colosseum and it was well worth it, it is such an amazing structure the history behind it is so interesting. We went to see the Vatican on our last day but the queue to get in was 4 ½ hours long and after the weekend of walking we just had, there was no way I was standing in that, maybe next year!

Hopefully I have given you a little food for thought and maybe you can start planning your next getaway. It really is the perfect place for a memorable holiday and I guarantee that you will feel the same way as I did about it when you come home. It is definitely the kind of place you could visit again and again and never get bored of it.

Until next week ladies

Ciao

Ciara x
