Beauty is my number one splurge and it’s when I have a special occasion coming up, that I look to the more expensive brands to give me a more professional finish.

Here are a few payday beauty treats that are worth the bigger spend for the your special occasion...

1) MAC Eyeshadow Palettes

There’s a reason Mac is a hugely popular cult beauty brand and their X15 eye shadows (MAC, £65) have definitely played a part in that success, providing intense pigmented colour and long lasting wear. With 15 shades to play with this palette is perfect for creating a hen party worthy, high drama smoky eye, as well as providing essential neutrals for day time wear.

2) Skin Serum

Skin serums can be pricey so they may seem like an investment, but when you consider that your skin is with you for the long haul you can see why it’s worth paying a little extra to look after it. Serums provide intense hydration and anti-ageing qualities. One of my faves is No7 Protect and Prefect Intense Advanced serum (Boots, £24.95), which is super lightweight and leaves skin feeling truly nourished. Start using it 1-2 weeks before the big night so you’ll have perfectly dewy skin by the time the hen party rolls around.

3) YSL Touche Eclat

YSL is the definition of luxe when it comes to beauty and Touche Eclat Complexion Highlighter (John Lewis, £25) is by far it’s most iconic product. It’s an essential if you want to add light, luminosity and radiance to your skin. Simply pop it in your clutch bag come hen night to add a quick touch of light or banish shadows and fatigue from around the eyes during the party.

4) Home Gel Nail Kit

If you’re planning a hen pamper party you should consider purchasing an at home gel nail kit. Not only will it be a fun edition to the pre-party preening, it’ll also save you a fortune on salon visits in the long run! The SensationNail Scarlet Red starter kit (sensationail.co.uk, £69.99) comes with an LED nail lamp and enough polish for you to complete 10 salon quality gel manicures that will last up to two weeks with no chipping!

Want to get back to basics and home school yourself on beauty? Then Bobbi Brown’s Makeup Manual (Bobbi Brown, £20) is for you! From tutorials on contouring to tips on mastering the smoky eye, if you do your homework you’ll have perfected a whole host of professional looks that you can unveil at the hen do. Before you spend a penny on cosmetics, purchase this book and learn the skills to use them to their full potential.
