Luxury Boho Hen Party in Budapest

In this issue of ‘Real Life Hens’ we speak to bridesmaid Charlene Jones (center) about a hen party that she and her fellow bridesmaids helped to plan for newly married Donna Hallahan (pictured on the left) who hails from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.

This classy group of ladies sure pulled out all the stops with their ‘Boho Chic’ hen weekend in non other than Budapest! Charlene gives us the low down...

Location, Location, Location

“Budapest was the chosen location for Donna’s hen party due to its reputation for good food and vibrant nightlife! The Hungarian capital also has superb shopping with mainstream brands such as Zara, Hugo Boss and Massimo Dutti - a must for any girl that loves to shop. Whilst there is a range of food markets to browse on a relaxed afternoon and an array of quaint coffee shops to get your morning coffee fix!”

Sweet Dreams

“We stayed at the 7 Seasons Apartments conveniently located in the heart of Budapest! These apartments were a top class find with everything we needed for our hen weekend. Very stylish yet comfortable!”

Boho Queens

“As the hen party was in Spring and the Bride-To-Be Donna loves her fashion we opted to go all out with a Boho Chic theme! We asked everyone to pack a flower garland in their suitcase and if they wished some fashion items that had a boho look to them”.

“I’ve seen celebrities such as Millie Mackintosh wearing flower garlands in magazines and on HenorStag - and they seem to be very on trend right now! We found garlands easily available to buy! We opted for a white flower garland for the bride-to-be and a pink version for the bridesmaids which were all bought from ASOS.”

Wine O’Clock

“The main hen party activity was a wine and cheese tasting session at the ‘Faust Winer Cellar’. We decided to do this on the first day and it proved to be a fantastic way to get to know each other in a relaxed environment. Each hen was provided with a cheese platter and a selection of red and white Hungarian wines to sample. The activity was great fun and lasted approx. 3 hours in total.”

“On the hen night we had a reservation at Borsso Bistro which we would highly recommend to any group of ladies visiting Budapest. Dishes range from steamed sea bass to braised ox cheek. We finished the night in ‘Szimpla’ one of the highly recommended ‘ruin bars’ and most popular tourist attractions. It’s a huge pub with nooks filled with bric-a-brac, grafitti, art and a host of unexpected items.”

“On the Sunday we visited the world famous Szechenyi Baths and Pool via the Metro which proved to be a cheap and easy way to get around during our weekend! The baths are a must if you ever visit Budapest and the perfect way to relax after a night of partying! That evening we had a fabulous Italian meal in a restaurant called ‘Trattoria Pomo D'oro’ which equally had some fantastic Italian wines!”

Hen Party Keepsakes

“The bridesmaids presented Donna with a personalised plaque which had details of the wedding (purchased from notonthehighstreet.com) and a memory book filled with fun photographs and personal messages! Everyone also brought a small gift with them to present to the bride-to-be on the last day!”

Hen Party Tips

Charlene’s top hen party tips are:

1) Pre-book all the restaurants after checking them out on Tripadvisor.
2) When exchanging money go to a bank rather than a cash machine to ensure you get the best exchange rate.
3) Choose central accommodation to cut down on taxi fares. (Our apartments were located on Kiraly Street which was a central location surrounded by coffee shops, bars and close to the metro).

So there you have it ladies, the low-down on what seems to have been a brilliant hen weekend! We take this opportunity to thank Charlene for giving us all the goss and insider tips and wish Mr and Mrs Hallahan the very best of luck for the future.
