ROE PARK RESORT UNCOVERED
by Jonathan Gallagher

Myself and girlfriend Bronagh left Belfast and set off for a weekend of relaxation to the 4* Roe Park Resort in Limavady, County Derry-Londonderry. This was our first visit to Roe Park Resort and feedback from previous hen parties and Tripadvisor reviews was highly promising. The journey from Belfast was very pleasant and took just over 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Roe Park Resort is situated on the edge of the picturesque town of Limavady and as you drive into the resort you can’t but be impressed with the properties exterior and large golf course that is manicured to pure perfection.

SUITE STAY

Upon arrival we were checked into the resort by receptionist Gillian who was not just welcoming but extremely helpful and certainly gave us a great first impression. Due to it being my 30th birthday the hotel had kindly upgraded us to one of their Luxury Suites.

On entering our suite we were instantly taken back by the plush decor which featured crystal chandeliers and oversized Georgian windows which overlooked the busy golf course. This suite definitely had the “WOW” factor; with separate living area, two large flat screen TV’s, Nespresso coffee machine and luxury bed which was fit for any King and Queen! The bathroom featured a state of the art power shower and large Jacuzzi bath; we noted special touches including a jar of heart shaped homemade short bread and a range of luxury bath products.

THE SPA AT ROE PARK

Having unpacked our bags and got our bearings we headed for The Spa at Roe Park for some TLC! As you enter you are greeted with soothing music and aromatic smells while the impressive treatment portfolio features a range of leading Elemis spa treatments and beauty therapies. After completing my consultation form I was taken to the Spa’s relaxation room to await my therapist for my ‘Traditional Full Body Massage’.

The Spa appeared to be popular with a range of individuals, couples and girlie groups taking full advantage of all that was on offer. After 20 minutes chilling in the relaxation room my therapist Eimear brought me to one of the spa’s modern treatment rooms. Being a male I was quite apprehensive about the whole experience however Eimear was very professional and put me at complete ease informing me about what I should expect. As I lay on the treatment bed I was welcomed with a foot scrub which gave me a ticklish feeling at first but it was not long before I was moved into a state of deep relaxation. During the 60 minute treatment Eimear worked her magic around my body to help revive both blood flow and de-stress my overworked muscles.

I genuinely felt fully absorbed in the whole experience and was highly impressed that Eimear was able to advise me that she had felt stress in my legs (I had previously been training for the Belfast Marathon). After my spa treatment I returned to the calming relaxation room to enjoy a mouth watering tropical sorbet. The relaxation room certainly is a tranquil environment and perfect for any individual, couple or hen party that wants to enjoy some pampering with softly lit mood lighting, comfy spa beds and a Aqua Meditation Chamber.

FAIRWAYS HEALTH CLUB

After the Spa we decided to continue our downtime and take advantage of the Fairways Health Club which featured a indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

Having enjoyed a couple of hours in the Health Club we returned to our guest room and decided to go all out with refreshing cocktails and a cheeky cheese board!

DINING IN STYLE

Feeling all refreshed it was time for dinner! Being the curious pair that we are we decided to dine in ‘Green’s Restaurant’ and enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the ‘Coach House Restaurant and Bar’; situated within a landscaped courtyard just outside of the hotel. The ‘Coach House Restaurant and Bar’ was buzzing with smartly dressed servers carrying plates of extremely tempting looking food; we decided to sit in the attractive lounge area overlooking the golf course to enjoy our drinks.

Afterwards we headed for ‘Greens Restaurant’ which offers a similarly priced menu to ‘Coach House Restaurant and Bar’ but is slightly more intimate. Our waitress for the evening was Iona and like every member of staff that we met throughout our stay she was extremely professional and friendly. During starters I opted for a rich Wild Mushroom Risotto while Bronagh selected the Chicken Liver Parfait. My main course was a Black n Blue Rib Eye Steak which certainly had a spicy kick and was complimented with Cashel blue cheese and caramelised red onions. Bronagh chose the Lemon Scented Sea Bass for her main course and was highly impressed. We finished by tickling our tastebuds with a Butterscotch Sundae (being the big kid that I am) and a Baileys Cheesecake. Our meal was complimented with a bottle of house wine priced at only £12.95 which like the menu itself was fantastic value. Unlike many hotel restaurants ‘Greens’ certainly is a delight for the senses with dishes that are created with flair!

COCKTAILS FOR TWO

Finishing our evening in style we headed for the resorts O’Cahan’s Bar to enjoy the live entertainment on offer. The bar was in full swing and there was certainly a great atmosphere with many people dancing!

After a great night and relaxing day we retired to our luxurious suite for a delightful sleep in our large kingsized bed. If you wished to extend your night you could hit the tiles in Limavady’s popular bars or opt for the bright lights of Derry-Londonderry’s top nightclubs and pubs which is only 20 minutes by taxi!

FIVE OUT FIVE

Feel refreshed we awoke to enjoy a full hearty breakfast followed by a stroll through the nearby Roe Valley Country Park. As we checked out we felt a little deflated that we had to leave but both agreed that we would certainly be back!

Roe Park Resort is without doubt a place for all to enjoy; from luxury hen parties in search of pampering and cocktails to couples seeking a little downtime! Hen parties that want to inject some adventure into their Derry hen weekend can also opt for activities at the nearby Carrowmena Activity Centre!

During our weekend we noticed the hotel also was host to a wedding and for anyone engaged or thinking of getting married we would certainly recommend having a look! The grounds are spectacular and the hotel is highly impressive.

Roe Park Resort appears to run like clockwork and you can’t fail to miss the high attention to detail throughout! We give Roe Park Resort a full FIVE stars and can’t wait to return!
