Hen Party Beauty Tips For Summer 2013

Claire McMenimen one of Northern Ireland's leading Make-Up Artists reveals to HenorStag.com her top 5 SIZZLING SUMMER tips for how to look good this Summer on your hen party or holidays!

Like many of you, I spend most of my year looking forward to my Summer holidays and do love the chance to enjoy a hen party or two! Swapping the rain and cloudy skies for sun-filled days is heaven for most of us. However, sticky climates and blistering heat (even in Ireland) isn’t heavenly for our make-up… and let’s face it, melting make-up is never a good look! Fortunately, help is at hand and by adapting our beauty regime and investing in a few tailor-made products, we can still manage to look good on the beach! I’ve put together some helpful tips and must-have products to keep you looking fresh-faced and glowing in all your Summer / hen party snaps!

TIP 1: Lighten Things Up!

I normally opt for a tinted moisturiser on holidays rather than my usual foundation, but recently I’ve been dabbling more with BB creams and there are some great products on the market. They are perfect for holidays- minimum effort, maximum gain! They even-out the skin-tone and create a lovely luminous glow, whilst also including the very important SPF factor that is essential to protect our skin from the sun’s damaging rays! One of my favourites is the Embryolisse BB Cream. It’s a pretty much one-size-fits-all product, as it comes in a universal shade that adapts to all skin-tones. It’s quite mattifying so is great for oily skin and with an SPF of 20 it’s great for Summer weather. I also love the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream. With an SPF of 30 it’s just the thing to protect your skin and it’s available in five different shades to suit most skin tones!
Embryolisse Complexion Illuminating Veil - BB Cream. 30ml. £24.50 Available at www.gurumakeupemporium.com
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream. £27. 30ml. Available at www.smashbox.co.uk

TIP 2: Accentuate Your Tan!

Even the palest tan can be given that extra-edge with a few sweeps of the bronzer brush. The trick is to pick a tone that complements your own skin tone, plus try to ensure that you bronze believably, only applying it to the areas that the sun would naturally hit. My absolute favourite is my Nars bronzer. It has beautiful golden tones that add a real glow to the skin and complements a range of skin tones. I also love the Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder. It’s a matte bronzer with six different shades, so there’s one to suit us all!
Nars Bronzing Powder. £26. Available at www.narscosmetics.co.uk
Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder. £27. Available at www.Bobbibrown.co.uk

TIP 3: Opt For Glow, Not Shine!

Blotting powders can be great to eliminate shine and are always handy to have in your bag. Boots do great shine-blasting sheets at a bargain price of £2.66. www.Boots.com. It’s also wise to pack a powder. Dusting a little translucent powder over your t-zone can help keep you shine-free. A compact is the most portable variety. Try Illamasqua Pressed Powder. £24. www.illamasqua.com or for something a little cheaper to chuck in your beach-bag, try Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot Powder. £12. www.soapandglory.com
TIP 4: Perfect Your Pout!

Although the Summer is a great time to try out some new lip-stick shades….the beach perhaps isn’t the best location. The quick and easy way to give your lips a little bit of Va-va-voom, whilst also getting the much needed added moisture is by using a tinted lip-balm. Burt’s Bees do a great tinted balm in a range of colours, but I’d advise getting one with a good SPF factor. I’ll be packing my Laura Mercier Hydratint. It also comes in a range of shades and has added sun protection!
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm. £5.99. Available at www.burtsbees.co.uk
Laura Mercier Hydratint SPF15. £17. Available at www.houseoffraser.co.uk

TIP 5: Water-Proof It!

Water-proof mascara is a must for days at the pool. Nobody wants that panda-eye look…but it can be hard to get a product that does exactly what it says on the tin. My favourite is the Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara. It doesn’t cake on your lashes and has great staying-power even when tested with pool-side splashes! You’ll also need a great eye-make-up remover though to get it off again!
Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra-Water-Proof Mascara. £15.
Available from www.debenhams.com
So there you have it… those will be the essentials that I’ll be packing this Summer for both my holidays abroad and friends Summer hen party in Ireland! Hopefully this year however I’ll be able to avoid that feeling of dread when it comes to weighing my luggage!
