Sauna

Spending time in a sauna isn't easy to do at the best of times, and suffering a hangover makes it an even more daunting proposition. However, there are a lot of health benefits to be had from sweating it out in a sauna, not least getting rid of a troublesome hangover!

If you can handle the heat, a stay of 10 minutes in the sauna can have massively positive effects. The heat-shock proteins that your body produces from being exposed to the dry heat has been scientifically proven to speed up the recovery process, giving your liver a helping hand!

As well as this, the act of sweating in the sauna can also expel alcohol through sweat glands, which takes some of the strain off your liver as well. Remember to bring water along with you to replace all the fluids you’ll lose!

Recent studies in sleep have shown that it the absolute best way for your body to recover. Getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night can have a profound impact on your mood and performance, with the REM cycle in sleep being the sole culprit! However, drinking alcohol affects REM sleep, as your brain will often skip the recovery part of your sleep— leaving you exhausted and drained the following morning.

Sleeping itself can also be interrupted by alcohol use, so ensure to get back to bed when you wake early. This process can sometimes kickstart the REM cycle, so that you will feel much better rested after the second snooze fest.

A great way to speed up your metabolic rate and help your body get rid of the alcohol and bi-products is to work out the morning after. If you can find the motivation to get up and do some light exercise, your body will release endorphins and force you to sweat — expelling the alcohol from your system and making you feel better.

Make sure to keep your water levels high throughout whatever exercise you do, whether its a run, cycling, or a strength workout.

That brings us onto the top natural hangover cure, water. Rehydration is without a doubt the most important aspect of overcoming a hangover, as the alcohol taken the night before is a causation of dehydration.

To assist your body in the detoxification process after drinking, sip plenty of water throughout the morning after your hen party. Continue to replenish your fluids throughout the day and before long your hangover will be a thing of the past!

Avoid Bright Lights and Loud Sounds

Hypersensitivity to light and noise is another effect of a hangover, so avoiding bright light and loud sounds until the worst of the hangover has passed is a good idea.

The safest place to stay therefore is your warm and comfy bed, and as the previous point states — drink plenty of water!
