Afternoon Tea at Lough Erne Resort and Spa

By

Henry James wrote in The Portrait of a Lady that “There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as Afternoon Tea.” An afternoon tea hen party is an utterly delectable way to celebrate your upcoming nuptials with your friends. With a sophisticated atmosphere but also one of fabulous fun, what better way to have a girlie natter and celebration than over tasty treats and fizzing champagne? I sampled Afternoon Tea at the five star Lough Erne Resort and Spa to see how fabulous an Afternoon Tea hen party could be...

On arrival our hostess Victoria showed us to our seats in the Members' Loft, with stunning views of the lakes, and arrived with a selection of tea leaves for us to sample. She took us through each one individually, allowing us to sample their scents whilst she told us about the flavours, lightness and what foods each tea leaf compliments the best. The teas to choose from included Darjeeling, Jasmine, Roibosh, Vanilla, Mint, Red Berries, Irish Whiskey Cream and Class Chai.  From here we were able to select which tea we wished to have along with our Afternoon Tea; I chose the mint flavour whilst my friend Lauren selected Red Berries. Our teas were brought to us in charming silver tea pots to be poured into dainty colourful china cups, in greens, pinks, blues and yellows with matching saucers, creating a bright, beautiful aesthetically pleasing table arrangement for you and your friends to have tea at.

Victoria also guided us through the Afternoon Tea menu, informing us on all of the delicious sandwich fillings and left us with the menu to choose which afternoon tea we wished. We chose the Sparkling Afternoon Tea, adding a glass of prosecco to our meal, but there’s a great choice available for everyone – there’s even a Chocolate Afternoon Tea available at the weekend which is perfect for chocolate lovers! A full selection of the Afternoon Tea menus is available here.

The three tiered cake stand that appeared before us was an absolute feast for the eyes! The tower of treats looked absolutely delicious and tasted even better. We started on the bottom tier with freshly baked scones till warm from the over, with clotted cream and delectable raspberry, strawberry and apricot jams –sweet and elegant afternoon tea nibbles that are perfect for a hen party with style. The second tier contained the sumptuous sandwiches – we stuck to the menu and ordered each filling, but the staff were more than accommodating and there was the option to substitute some fillings for others, which is great for a hen party group where there could be vegetarians, vegans, or simply people who prefer one filling over another! We sampled egg and onion; cucumber and cream cheese; chicken coronation; and, my personal favourite, smoked salmon, in dainty little bite sized amounts and polished them all off!

We polished off our afternoon tea delights with the top tier – the desserts. We sampled a delicious array of treats, including homemade custard creams, chocolate profiteroles, fruit tarts, raspberry and almond fancies, chocolate dipped strawberries and utterly delectable lemon macaroons. These sumptuous sweet treats were a fabulous way to round off the afternoon tea menu, irresistible in colour and presentation and good enough to eat! The girls in your hen party group will love every element of not just the desserts tier but each section, and of course the rich warmth of the tea itself, making it a splendid girlie indulgence for everyone. We were able to continue our relaxation and quality time together in the Members’ Loft, taking in the incredible views of the resort and beyond while sipping on our ice cold glass of prosecco, in a true world of luxury.

Ladies, if you’re after a sophisticated, elegant, fabulous day out with your hens topped off with the most sumptuous food the Lough Erne Resort is definitely the place to go. In a setting of grandeur and opulence, soaking up the serene atmosphere and enjoying tasty treats whilst celebrating with all your closest friends – what’s not to like? And if you are anything like us you’ll eat everything on the cake stand and leave feeling very satisfied!
