Hens Hit London

The Swinging City of London

With an increasing surge of Irish hen parties staying within Ireland for a girly weekend, I reveal why you should consider London for a change of scenery!

London has so much to offer in way of sights and culture, amusements and nightlife! There are also hundreds of potential hen party activities to fill your trip with, making London an excellent destination for any and every bride-to-be. Here are a few ideas to make sure you get the most out of this vibrant, lively city on a short stay...

Oyster cards

Travel the city with an Oyster Card

Whilst London can be an expensive city there are ways to get around without spending too much cash on the little things such as travel. On your way into the city, stop at a ticket machine and grab yourself an Oyster card. There is a £5 deposit charge but you can return the card and get that refunded after 48 hours.

With the oyster card you will save on every trip you make and the max you will be charged for travel within certain zones is under a tenner. With tubes coming every which way you will be able to get all around the entirety of London very cheaply. Plus they are quicker and run more frequently than taxis and buses so you will have more time to sightsee, explore and party as only Irish hens know how!

Hen Party Bus Tours

Get snap happy in London City

God’s gift to tourists - the tour bus! For around £30 why not buy a ticket to one of the many bus tours that run around the city? There are collection points all across London so just hop on at the first one you can find. With tonnes of different routes going to every attraction you can think of they are a great way to find your way about, cram in as many sights as possible and also learn about this beautiful, historical place.

Simply drive by and take a photograph if you aren’t bothered or hop off, take a walk around and then get onto the next tour bus to move along. Some even include a free Thames cruise and include two days for the price of one so shop around and find the one that best suits your party.

Museums and Attractions

Capture the magic on the London Eye

A quick research and planning session before you leave is always a good idea! Get a list of the museums and attractions everyone is keen to visit and whittle down according to how much time you will have over there. Whilst some can be a tad costly others such as the Tate Modern and National Gallery offer free entry. Work out what would be the most entertaining for the group as walking around in silence is often not the most fun way to spend the day, no matter how amazing the works of art.

Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Tower of London for example are amazing experiences to have with your nearest and dearest friends and will stay with you long after the big day. Remember, you can always go back but you only have a short trip to make some amazing memories before your wedding.

London Accommodation

Fancy a dip in the Crystal Blue Pool at Ajala Spa at Saint Paul's?

London centre is chock full of amazing hotels, offering everything from amazing spas to trendy cocktail bars and tempting restaurants. Grange Hotels are one of many city center hotel chains that offer dedicated London hen party packages. While new trendy 5-Star hotels such as the Mondrain London by the Morgan Hotel Group have a glamorous array of fabulous options on offer!

If however you want to save a little money to spend on enjoying yourself in the museums or taking a fun cocktail or crafty class then have a look at areas such as Bayswater and Waterloo for cheaper hotels only a few tube stops away! Although perhaps not as luxurious as those in the hotspot areas - many are lovely, clean and include both breakfast and free Wi-Fi.  The perfect place to rest your head between busy days of being a London hen party on tour!

Bars and Restaurants

Afternoon Tea at Selfridges in London

Another thing many worry about is the expense of wining and dining in London. As with any European city some places are going to be more expensive than others so look around before deciding. London is a city brimming with quaint, quirky boutique cafes and restaurants so why not give some of those a go? Many have special hen party menus, with fabulous cake and cocktail options! Indeed, heading to Selfridges or Café Concerto for Afternoon Tea or a cake testing session is an unforgettable way to mark your last trip as a single lady!

Top Tip: The Goat on Kensington High Street is the place to go for a cheeky vodka and coke for under £5 (ask for the soda stream option as opposed to a bottle) and you can keep an eye out for Kate and William - as the back gate to the palace is just across the street!

So there you have it ladies - my top tips for planning an unforgettable hen party in London that will have you save a few pounds along the way!
