Stepford Wives Hen Party Theme

“A Stepford wife is defined as "domestic goddess, sweet natured and subservient.”

A 1950's housewife theme is perfect for a Hen Party idea. Help your bride to be to prepare for her role ahead by helping her to be the ‘perfect wife’

Most of us have seen the 2004 movie ‘Stepford Wives’ staring Nicole Kidman where the husband create their ‘perfect wife’ by turning them into robots. If only it were possible for the men in our lives, eh girls?

How to dress like a Stepford Wife

Remember, to be feminine, but understated. Coif your hair, perfect your understated make up and glue on that perfect smile

A Cocktail or Sun dress (preferably in pastel shades or florals), a pretty vintage style apron lady like accessories such as gloves, pearls, mid heel shoes and an alice band.

1950’s Housewives Hair

The women of the 1950's were known for their well-put-together looks on a daily basis. Going out with unwashed hair, a messy bun or pony tail was just unthinkable. Again keep it simple and girly and add an accessory such as a head scarf or band. Check out this fab Youtube video below to help you to create a feminine 1950s look.

Food and Drink

If you are having your party at home what you could do is ask each hen to bring some baked goods for the bride to judge. This will be the ultimate test of a good housewife and it will add a bit of friendly competition to the evening.

In the 1950’s liquor bottles wouldn’t have been displayed like they are now so hence the punch bowl. Punch is extremely easy to make and can be made with or without alcohol to cater for all guests. Float some cut fruit in your punch bowl and you have the perfect retro beverage.

I hope that this week’s blog has given you some food for thought and an alternative to some of the more tradition themes. As we all know there is no such thing as ‘perfect’ but it is certainly a fitting theme for a blushing bride to be.
