Downton Abbey Hen Party Idea

Now I don’t know about you ladies but I absolutely love nothing more than sitting down to watch Downton Abbey on a Sunday night! I can’t begin to tell you how gutted I am that this is the last series. So for all you Downton fans out there here are a few ideas on how to be the ‘Lady of the Manor’.

Dress up in gorgeous vintage gowns, play games, indulge in afternoon tea and create memories that are set to last a life time!

Victorian Escapade provides the ideal setting to have your Downton Abbey themed hen party! I’d definitely recommend checking them out!

What to Wear

The clothing style from this period is all about two things, lace and tulle. The form-fitting styles of the Victorian era are discarded for looser and more A-line dresses. Even though you don’t necessarily need to wear a floor-length dress or skirt in order to keep the spirit of the clothing, they wouldn’t be seen dead with a skirt that was above the knee. The whole appeal of this era was the glamorous and classic fashion. Think flapper dresses, beading and elbow length gloves. Use your imagination ladies!

Hair and Make up

Soft colours are key to the Downton beauty look, everything in the 1920s was very round. Very soft- pinks and browns are great for the eyes and you can still put on your strip lashes, just remember to keep them subtle ladies. The lip shape was also very round, so make sure you use a soft pink lip liner to create a rounder shape, that’s not too harsh. Finish the look off with just a flush of colour on the apple of the cheeks.
As you have probably noticed, the women of the Downton era all have long hair, which is never let down until its bedtime. I recommend those elegant, loose up-dos to complete the Downton look.

Jewellery is the key to pulling off this kind of fashion. Pearl strands and drop earrings are a must for the perfect Downton look. Unlike in Edwardian times and the roaring 20s, costume jewellery isn’t going to cost you an arm and a leg. You can find appropriate pieces pretty much everywhere nowadays and on the internet!

I hope that this week’s post has given you ladies some ideas for a special and unique hen party theme. I think this is perfect for those looking for something quirky and different for the wanna-be Downton Bride!

Until next week ladies...

Have a fab weekend!
