Hen Party Finishing Touches

By

Every so often it can feel like your outfit is lacking a little...something. Which is often the moment you start playing around with your jewellery and accessories to make your look as good as it can possibly be. A little black dress might need a pop of colour or tying your hair up might be the perfect excuse to show off your new ornate earrings. Whatever your own style is, when it comes to dressing up for a hen celebration, your jewellery is the icing on top of the clothing cake – here are the new finishing touches to add to your look this season.

Textures and fabrics are always big in the winter months as they are perfect for layering. Velvet accessories are going to be big this season, and with a nod to the 90s, you can’t go wrong with a velvet choker, ticking off two trends in one. The velvet adds a luxurious feel, perfect for adding to an elegant evening hen party look, whilst the thickness creates an instant update from the skinny chokers of the summer months - look to the KarJenners, especially Kim and Kendall for high end choker inspiration. Keep the rest of your look clean for a minimalist look with a hint of edginess. However, the bag was the must have velvet accessory on the catwalk, so if you’re wanting to add a bit more of the opulent fabric to your look – as can splash the cash to do so – snap up Saint Laurent’s signature quilted clutch, shown above. It still has its feminine silhouette but in a deep velvet variation, complete with a luscious leather lining and the infamously desirable golden metal monogrammed logo; the ultimate lavish hen party accessory. Look out for high street versions hitting the shops soon.

Jewellery is all about contrast in the upcoming season, between the bold and the delicate, with Topshop leading the way on this trend. Their latest collection mixes gold with rose gold for truly opulent effect, adorned with sumptuous pearls of whites, dusky pinks and stormy blues. Jewellery is dainty, with chunky trinkets attached to create a refined yet quirky look for any hen party look and works perfectly with the new season colour palette of pinks, blues and greys. Their earrings, above, showcase this contrast beautifully and are a real statement piece whilst futuristic feel with the contrasting metals and large circular form brings a modern edge; perfect for juxtaposing with delicate lace at a hen party afternoon tea.

One accessory that often gets overlooked, seen more for its practical qualities than style is the classic belt. However, the winter months are ideal for it to make its way into the foreground; the right belt can become the core piece within an outfit and completely transform the look and silhouette. The belt is no longer just an add-on but a standalone statement. This wide leather Otis belt in midnight navy from Reiss is a strong basic to add to your wardrobe, but the all-over crocodile effect pattern brings a luxury texture element that makes it hen party-worthy. With the colder weather of autumn and winter, whatever type of hen party you’re having a new season coat will surely accompany you to and from it; cinch your waist in by layering it over your coat, as seen on the Prada runway, for a chic outwear look just as fabulous as the outfit underneath. Layer your textures by slipping a faux fur stole over your shoulder and tucking it through your belt for added winter chic. You can also interest to a simple navy dress through the texture, or clash with bright colours and top and skirt separates for a striking hen party dinner look. When your hen party has been and gone make the most of your belt’s wearability by teaming it with light denim and cool flats, slung low on the hips à la Celine for the perfect casual weekend look.

Ladies, if you have a hen party coming up in the next few months there’s plenty of fun, fabulous ways in which to update your classic pieces with – or go for a whole new look! These are only just a mere few of the many trends that are coming our way this season – there’s so many ways in which to add a little extra something to your hen party outfit to make sure you’re looking bang on trend!
