Hen Party Eye Candy

A sunny hen party away, whether it is to a beach resort, music festival, or maybe - just maybe -being lucky enough for a sunny day in Northern Ireland always requires one item that we rarely get to wear: sunglasses. But just because we don’t get to wear them often doesn’t mean you have to stick to just one pair! I’ve put together a guide of the best shapes to suit your face, along with the top trends of the season, making sure you’re fashionably ready, wherever your hen party takes you.

Round faces are characterised by soft, contoured, feminine features, being roughly equal in width and height. Look for geometric shapes; horizontal frames and Wayfarers to give your face a longer, thinner look for an elegant edge that offsets your natural facial contours. Rayban’s RB2140 50 Original Wayfarer are a fantastic pair of shades for you; the signature shape never goes out of style. With a designer price tag these shades are definitely an investment piece so purchase in the classic black, ensuring they are the perfect match for whatever you plan to wear as your hen party look. For something a bit more fun (and purse friendly) try Pull & Bear’s collaboration with Hawkers (above) – a similar shape to Rayban, but with mirrored lenses and two tone frames in various colours to add a vibrant pop to your hen party look.

A square face shape gives you bold features, such as a prominent forehead and a strong jawline to create a distinctive look. To balance your striking jawline and angular features try curvier frames such as round, cat eye and oval to accentuate your eyes. Warehouse's round sunglasses, above, are a cool retro yet glam pair of shades that work well in many hen party locations; by the pool on a hen weekend, or outside at a glamourous restaurant or bar. Team with gold accessories, with lots of bracelets and rings, and a golden smoky eye to create an opulent hen party outfit. They're currently just ten pounds in the sale so snap them up quickly!

Those of you with oval shaped faces have the fortune of being able to pull off just about anything when it comes to sunglasses. Rectangle frames can balance the vertical oval face shape with their horizontal orientation, whilst upswept styles such as cat eyes highlight striking high cheekbones. This tortoise shell pair of sunglasses from Urban Outfitters has the perfect balance of upsweep and width to balance an oval face shape. The dark tint make them the perfect contrast to wear with a soft colour palette of creams, dusky pinks and crochet for a boho vibe to match a relaxed hen party lunch or BBQ in the sunshine; and they also make an ideal pair of transition sunglasses into the autumn months.

If you’ve got a heart shaped face, meaning you have more of a broader brow and narrow chin, so you can direct attention downwards and elongate your look with frames with thin temples, in light colours, or with exaggerated bottoms, such as the aviator style of sunglasses. This pink to orange ombre mirrored pair from Topshop are the perfect match for a bright coral or pink bikini for a girlie hen party weekend away in the sunshine. Or where these shades to an evening hen party on a sunny rooftop bar with a matching bright lip and a stark contrast with a white or black dress, adding a pop of colour.

Whatever your face shape or personal style, there’s a shiny new pair of sunglasses out there to suit you, whatever your hen party look. Whether it’s an evening out with the girls or a longer time spent abroad a fabulous pair of sunglasses are the ultimate finishing accessory for your look…bring on the sunshine!
