Belfast Fashion Week Hen Heaven

By

One of my own favourite Belfast events is the West Coast Cooler Belfast Fashion Week. Whether you’re after a designer tag or on a more high street budget you’ll always leave with a long, long wish list! It’s the perfect opportunity to get a local look at the latest trends that will be hitting our shops and can spark some real inspiration for any hen party outfits. I was lucky enough to get a front row seat at the High Street Heaven SS16 show on Friday night – here are some of my favourite pieces for a hen party that will get you noticed!

BLOCK COLOUR

Block colour is going to be a big trend for the season ahead, and this Lisa red high neck lace panel dress from Cari’s Closest created a collective gasp when it stormed the catwalk. As a more parred back nod to the rainbow clashing on the SS16 catwalks of Christopher Kane and Gucci the colouring blocking trend is easily wearable and perfect to make an impact at your hen party. Red was one of the main brights on the BFW catwalk, along with blue, yellow and hot pink. Team this Lisa dress with nude heels to keep the focus on the intricate lace panel detailing and its hand-cut raw lace hemline, and a bold red lip for easy yet striking elegance.

MONOCHROME

Alana Interiors Boutique provided inspiration for a chic monochrome hen party look that would be a perfect change from the typical dress or skirt. The blossom print of the suit softens the harshness often associated with black and white. Wear it like the BFW model above with a ruffled blouse to soften the look further, adding a touch of Romanticism similar to the Alexander McQueen and Lanvin shows. Or make the look more edgy with a simple pair of black strappy heels and black bandeau top, like Kendall Jenner wore to the OFF WHITE show in Paris last week.

QUIRKY

This look above form DV8 is a fun look, filled with top trends to create a quirky hen party look. The bomber jacket is a cool nod to those worn by all the off duty models at Fashion Weeks right now, whilst its geometric print creates a fun twist that contrasts well with the long fringing of the suede skirt. The end result is one of cool unapologetic style if your normal look doesn’t lean towards frills and lace. Keep the accessories simple to focus on the graphic print and fringe, not cluttering your outfit with too many different elements.

ROMANCE

If you are one for frills and lace, or you’re attending a more refined, elegant hen party afternoon tea or dinner you can’t go wrong with this floaty romantic dress from Diamonds Dolls. It’s cinched waist and full volume skirt create a great silhouette whilst the cherub detailing adds to the romantic feel. The buttons and collar add a proper elegance seen at JW Anderson - add rose gold earrings and bracelets, nude heels and natural make up including a dusky pink lip to keep with the sophisticated style.

GLAM NIGHT

For something extra special for your hen party why not try a floor length dress? This Cari’s Closet number stole the end of the show. Perfect for a glam night with the girls or themed hen party this dress creates a dramatic impact. With lace being one of the big trends of the season this dress squarely ticks that box, with slight reference to the gothic look of Rodarte’s latest offerings. You can style this dress one of two ways; take inspiration from the BFW model above and keep the look natural with dewy makeup and a simple smoky eye with nude heels, or play to the gothic feel of the black lace and add a dark plum lip and dark stoned chandelier earrings with hair pulled back for a striking late night hen look.

Ladies, there’s lots of great fashion right here in Belfast waiting to be discovered, with plenty of inspiration to be taken from our very own glamorous Fashion Week. And with BFW taking place twice a year, if you’ve got a hen party coming up in October, why not go for a Belfast Fashion Week night as part of your hen celebrations? It’s a great, girlie, fun night out and can be the perfect hen party experience for you and all your fashion loving friends!
