All That Glitters Party Fashion Ideas

By

With Christmas here and New Year's Eve fast approaching it’s the perfect time of the year to add a little bit of sparkle to the occasion – especially anyone having a glitzy hen party with the girls! You can go full on glam in head to toe sequins and or go more subtle with just a little sprinkling of pixie dust – here’s a few ways to makes sure your outfit truly glistens...

For those of you who really like to dress up during the festive season there’s nothing better than an all over sequined dress. River Island, Warehouse and M&S are all full of them, but if you’re feeling that’s a little been-there-done-that, shake it up a little bit by turning your outfit into a two piece. This petroleum green one, above, from H&M, is the perfect colour – not too loud to overpower the sequined affect, but with more excitement than a little black dress. The best part of a two piece sequin set is the ability to create more looks out of it; team the skirt with black lace or a fine knit to make it more day party appropriate, whist the sequined top can be paired with leather or ripped jeans and heels to be worn easily on a different night out from your hen party.

If all over shimmer is too much River Island love the glittered tassel look this season, with remnants of the Roaring Twenties still in the collection. The long beaded tassels, below, create a fun movement and are afresh take on the tightly sewn sequins, whilst the light colour makes it perfect to go from an elegant high tea to a night out with cocktails. Team with leather trousers as they have for a more party look, or couple it with a light suede pencil skirt with gold accessories for a stylish look that will fit into any occasion.

If glitter isn’t really you’re thing, or if you’re heading to a day time hen do and you would like a more subtle shimmer to your outfit, try an embellished top. The one from Warehouse above comes in the colour of the season, deep burgundy, with an embellished trim for a touch of sparkle. Wear tucked in a mid length fine pleated skirt with a glittered belt or bag to keep the sparkle running through the look if you’re out for a glamorous lunch, or team with leather trousers for a edgier, more casual look, but keeping away from the denim jean. Match with burgundy cigarette trousers for a colour blocking look that really leads the eye to the touch of sparkle at the neckline and sleeves.

There are no rules about only wearing one form of glitter at once so why not add even more shimmer by doubling up on your sequins? Zara’s new evening editorial depicts just that, teaming glitter threaded tops with matching wide legged trousers for a relaxed glam vibe, subtle enough to be worn during the day or night, adding an understated ooze of glamour to any hen party occasion. Adding a sequined accessory, such as a beaded bag, to clash with the sparkle already on show adds a fun, festive party element to a look. A beaded, gem encrusted bag or heel can be enough alone to add that extra bit of shimmer to your outfit if you’re after a more understated look. Make like the Zara models above and team your glittering pieces with other textures such as crushed velvet or lace in rich, deep colours for a luxurious look worthy of dimly lit bars or elegant restaurants.

For a really fun glitter party trick try using actual glitter itself! An interesting balance between the brave and faint hearted, glitter eyelids are a small way in which to add a little shimmer to a look, but also can create a big impact. Loose glitter eye shadow pigments in gold, silver or bronze are the most flattering as similar in colour to warm smoky colours that make regular appearances in eye shadow palettes and can create a look of grown up fun without looking too wild. Or, if it’s wild you’re after try a bold, bright colour, teamed with a monochrome outfit for all attention on your eyes. Make sure to prep your lids with eye shadow primer first – Too Faced do a great one specifically for glitter pigmented eye shadow. For the extra daring, bring the glitter down onto your cheekbones for extra shine, or its perfect to top off a hen party fancy dress look.

Whilst Christmas is the time of year to deck the halls with holly and tinsel, it’s also the perfect season to deck yourself out in the finer, more sparkly things in life. It’s always fun to add glitter and shimmer into an outfit for a special occasion and no matter what that occasion is, there’s a dash of sparkle to suit everyone.
