1950s Hen Party

Welcome to the very first blog of Themed Thursdays! Each week I will be bringing you a new hen party theme that carters for all tastes and budgets. I will show you all you need to know in order to achieve the look for your perfect fun filled hen party, with no ‘L’ plates required!

This week the theme is a personal favourite of mine - Retro/1950s pin up girls! Let's bring back some style with a little bit of class! Who cares if you’re not a size 8, these were real women!

Hen Party 1950s Outfit

This era was all about celebrating women’s curves, so keep the look sexy and girly, think Marilyn Monroe There is a 1950’s inspired outfit to flatter any figure from the slinky figure hugging pencil dress to a flirty align party dress. This look does not have to cost a fortune; there are many retro inspired outfits on the high street at the moment such as this one below. Now available from Dorothy Perkins, Fever Fish Navy White Prom Gingham Dress, £35.00. Alternatively why not pop down to your local thrift or vintage clothing store or jump on line and get your 1950’s clothing for next to nothing from eBay or Amazon.

Hen Party Retro Hairstyle

They say everything old is new again and in fashion that is definitely true. Vintage hairstyles are very big right now and there are many step by step video tutorials to be found on line from the very simple to the more advanced for those who are feeling brave.

Quick and easy ways to accessories and dress up your look, such as a polka dot print bow clip. You can take a scarf and tie it into a bow worn as a wrap or if small enough, tie into a bow then secure to your hair with a few bobby pins. These are great for girls that struggle with that finished pin-up look. ASOS have a great range of accessories ranging from subtle to over the top depending on how brave you are feeling. Claire's Accessories and Accessorize are also great for hair accessories too!

Hen Party Vintage Makeup

Retro hair and makeup from the 1950s, a signature look for vintage and modern pinup girls alike. I especially love the cat eye and ruby red lip combo.
Lipstick in Ruby Woo from MAC, £13.50. Its cool-blue undertones make it flattering for the English rose complexion and a matte finish gives the perfect 1950s Hollywood finish. Liquid Eyeliner - Rimmel Exaggerate liquid eyeliner in black, £5.29. A long lasting, easy to use liquid liner for an intense result, which is essential for this retro look.

I hope you have found this helpful and has given you some ideas for your upcoming hen party or girls’ night out, who doesn’t like an excuse to dress up.

Don’t forget to come back next week when I will be showing you how to create a “ Great Gatsby” themed hen party that will bring you right back to the roaring 20’s.
